What They're Saying About Us!
“A moving meditation”
When Jasna asked me to write this testimonial I felt honored and then, I felt anxious just thinking “what a challenging request!” Soon I realized that as in life, the answer was in the way I approach my yoga practice, face the challenge, and be strong and firm, but patient.
My name is Natalee and I’m going to tell you about my journey with yoga.
I was given the gift of yoga a little more than a year ago; and it was my moment to receive it. I learned so many things about my body and my mind that I could not understand before. I learned that you need to listen to your body in order to be strong, but that strength is not only physical but mental as well as spiritual.
To say that about 2 years ago my life was not at a place where I thought it would be is an understatement. However, I was fortunate enough to discover that sometimes life does not go as planned; thanks to yoga I now understand that it is OK when life throws you a curve ball, because even when you have done a pose before, the best way to come into a pose is as if it is your first time.
In addition, I understood that it was OK not to have expectations, because sometimes challenges arise from within, and thus are self-imposed. After the first few practices I started to realize that everyone was so into themselves that no one was looking at me, let alone judging me. This is something that I brought into my daily life. What an amazing thing to dedicate an hour to yourself without judgment or criticism!
Moreover, I understood that listening to my body also means paying attention to what is happening physically. That is why I decided to lose weight and get healthier; both by exercising more, and eating better. It was not a matter of vanity, but of being healthy inside and out; though I will not deny the fact that it is much easier to twist!
I love going to Sun Yoga, I admit that about a year ago I went to another studio in Toronto, but I found myself comparing it to Sun Yoga; there and then and without a doubt I decided that the studio for my practice is Sun Yoga. One of the many things that I love about the studio is its environment; but above all I love the people, both the instructors with their helpful comments, attitude, and the way they make my family and I feel welcome, as well as the fellow practitioners and their amazing energy.
Whenever is possible, I practice yoga 4 times a week. However, I enjoy the gift of yoga every day of my life. Happy Yoga!" - Natalee, Oakville
"Three month ago, my partner convinced me to try yoga with him. He had been practicing at home for 3 years, and though I had tried to follow the DVDs with him, I was never able to truly experience yoga while surrounded by laundry, children, and the myriad of “things to do” in the house. I admit I have tried a number of different “exercise” routines in the past 20 years. I have never been able to find that experience that keeps me coming back for more, one that does for my mind as much as it does for my body. Though skeptical, I thought I would try yoga with Dwayne, to see if I would actually enjoy the practice. What has happened to me, to us, in the past three months is fantastic. I have found peace ofmind and body, something I never thought possible. A devout coffee drinker, I have given up the habit, replacing it with a variety of different teas. I am sleeping better, something that has eluded me for 15 years. I also took my measurements when I joined Sun Yoga. I lost 8 inches over all in the first two month.
I feel strong, I feel more flexible, and I feel at peace. Practicing yoga together, as a couple has been amazing for our relationship and towards the commitment to the practice. Dwayne, who has never participated in a class before, looks forward to the peace, challenge, and different approaches that are enabled within a classroom setting. He is stronger, more flexible, and void of recurring back and joint pain. Practicing together has brought us closer together. We pick each other up when one doesn’t feel like going. We see the positive in each other, and discuss the benefits found in every class. We feel that all the instructors at Sun Yoga have something special to offer for each of us. We relish the days we slip in to our practice, leaving us refreshed, calm and ready to face the world together. Yoga is so much more to us than just an exercise class. We believe it to be both a journey, and a lifetime pursuit." - Trina, Oakville
"I've discovered over the years the value and importance of exercise for our health and well being. Admittedly, it wasn't a smooth path but one thankfully that lead me to "Sun Yoga". A loyal client for almost 2 years and practicing a minimum of 3 times a week, I found even more then I knew I was looking for.
At "Sun Yoga", and with the variety of classes that are available, the instructors are truly dedicated and committed to helping guide you through your own personal journey. And it is with this guidance, expertise and support I've received a great gift.....the willingness to accept, the openness to understand and appreciate and the desire to go forward both physically and mentally! Namaste" - Lisa, Oakville
"When I started yoga more than a year ago, I had been searching a while already for an exercise activity that I would truly enjoy and be able to commit to, not just because it’s healthy and good for you but also because it is fun. Running monotonously around the block and mostly on asphalt is not my cup of tea. Running on a treadmill in a gym while staring at a TV with an I-pod plugged in, did not appeal very much to me either. So I decided to give it a try with yoga. I was skeptic at first, but was pleasantly surprised to find that yoga can be so much fun and such a stress relief. It is a form of exercise that allows you to engage all areas of the body in controlled movements and not just particular ones. You get to know your body really well and learn to listen to it. . Yoga is not competitive and non-judgmental. A lot of teachers often remind the students to take it at their own pace or to take a break in a resting pose whenever they need to. After class I often feel energized and balanced. I also can now do things that I thought would not be able to do.
When I discovered the Sun-Yoga studio, I was glad to have a Yoga studio so close by. The owner of the studio, Jasna, makes you always feel very welcome. The atmosphere there is personal and friendly. The teachers are knowledgeable and offer a great variety of different yoga styles. Try it out, there is something in it for everyone, no matter what your size, age or level of fitness is. See you around!" - Michaela Schwandner, Oakville
Jasna, I am so grateful for the many changes in my health and my life thanks to the simple act of attending yoga classes at your studio. When I began taking classes just a few months ago, I was depressed and unhealthy. Now depression has become a thing of the past and my body is stronger and more flexible than ever. I have not felt this good in years and years! No matter how my day has been going, the moment I walk through your door, being greeted by you with your big smile, I always begin to feel better. In fact, I ALWAYS feel 100% better after my class. Always. I thank you so much!!!! - Lee Preston, Oakville

"My wife, Marion, and I joined Sun Yoga a few months ago and we are very pleased to have made this commitment to our health.
I’m 62 and my wife is...younger at 56. We have practiced yoga on and off (mostly off) for 30 years at various studios and with many different teachers and Sun Yoga is by far our favourite studio.
While there are various styles of yoga (some are more challenging than others) Sun Yoga offers a wide variety of instruction so we can pick the yoga style that fits our needs. But what really separates one yoga studio from another is the quality of the instruction.
At Sun Yoga we have taken instruction from at least five different teachers and we can say without qualification that while each teacher is different in approach and style, overall each one provides the same high level of care and clarity in their classes.
At our ages it’s easy to overdo it in a class or to forget to honour our own bodies. At Sun Yoga, it’s been our experience that the instructors’ first concern is the wellbeing of their students. While encouraging us to grow in our practice, the instructors are vigilant to ensure we never exceed our current abilities.
Anyone can benefit from regular yoga practice.
Marion says that yoga has helped to reduce the stress of working in a full-time corporate sales role. Attending several classes a week forces a level of discipline and commitment to her physical, emotional and even spiritual health.
“I can honestly say I’m happier and I definitely sleep better. As a menopausal woman, this is important to me,” said Marion. “As well, I’ve lost weight and inches especially from my waist and hips; weight that has remained with me for the past 15 years despite multiple attempts and programs to lose it.”
As for me, in 2007 I had open-heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm and replace a heart value. My recovery took a year and then I took another year away from any strenuous activity. With the reassurance from my cardiologist I returned to yoga.
The first weeks were difficult. There were many times (and still are) when I lessen the intensity of a pose or allow the instructor to suggest the use a block or belt to help me. But each week I find I can complete moves that were impossible for me before." - Peter & Marion West
