200 Hours Teacher Training Program Certified by Yoga Alliance
In the Sun Yoga Teacher Training program you will learn to teach your passion for yoga with our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training course which is designed with your busy schedules in mind enabling you to maintain commitment to work, family, schooling and other activities during your course of study. Students who complete the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program will feel confident in their ability to teach students safely and effectively, and will have gained tremendous insight into the world of yoga.
This program will not only broaden your understanding of yoga and the postures but more importantly deepen your connection with Self. You will also receive a certificate necessary to teach Hatha yoga here at home or anywhere abroad.
Anyone who is truly interested in understanding who they are; why they are here should consider the 200 program. It is a physical, emotional, energetic journey of the heart that can only deepen your life whether you decide to teach yoga or not.
Teacher Training Program
Vision: a student that graduates from the program will be qualified to teach a comprehensive, safe Hatha yoga class and will have improved their understanding of yoga, teaching techniques, business opportunities, and one’s direction in life. Students will learn to teach safely, effectively and with confidence.
Teaching Techniques: 100 hours
Students will spend approximately 100 hours of the training learning the foundations of teaching Hatha yoga. Although there are many Hatha yoga postures, each of the postures were chosen specifically to illustrate principles of teaching that can then be applied to any posture.
- Detailed study of yoga postures, including modifications of poses and appropriate use of props
- Correct physical alignment
- Be able to accommodate students of all levels through modifications and variations
- Be able to describe to students the physical, emotional and energetic benefits
- Learn to give clear, simple instructions through choice of appropriate verbal cues and body language
- Key points for teaching beginners
- Student teacher relationship
- Ethics of a yoga teacher
Multiple opportunities to practice teaching will be given. At Sun Yoga we create a supportive, nurturing community of teachers to help you what you have learned right away. You will receive immediate feedback from your teachers to help you refine your teaching skills and feel at ease in front of a class. We are here to support you every step of the way.
Teaching Methodology: 20 hours
Approximately 20 hours will be spent on learning and practicing teaching techniques that “make a good yoga teacher” great. They include the following:
- Learn to teach safely, effectively and with confidence
- Learn the principles of sequencing, mini teaching practices, than facilitation and feed back
- Teaching the students the importance of breath through understanding breathing principles, and then how to guide students ‘to breathe’
- How to encourage and inspire students through their practice
Practicum:
Students will practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and assisting students while someone else is teaching.
Anatomy and Physiology: 20 hours
So the 20 hours suggested by Yoga Alliance is an introduction to the muscular, skeletal, respiratory, digestive, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, and lymphatic system and how yoga benefits each system. Chakras and how they relate to the postures covered will also be introduced.
Yogic History and Philosophy: 20 hours
In this section a History of Yoga, overview of Bhagavad Gita, Yoga sutras, 8-limbed path of yoga will be discussed.
- Yamas and Niyamas and how they pertain to the teachings
- Discussion of Ethics and a look inwards to one’s own beliefs and philosophy make this section practical and relevant
- Yoga’s journey to the West and the most influential yogis of our time
- History of the philosophy of yoga with readings in the Vedas and Patanjali’s work.
Practical Business and Life Skills: 20 hours
Includes Basic principles of the business of yoga, creating an action plan that leaves a student prepared for immediate action following graduation.
Introduction to Meditation and different techniques, ‘the reason Hatha Yoga was invented’ Students are encouraged to continue their own yoga practice as there is limited time for practice during the course although a very important posture assessment at the start and end of the course.

Tuition
• Tuition for Sun Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training Program is $2500 plus HST.
• Cost includes unlimited Teacher Training pass from October 2011 to January 2012.
• 200 Hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Certificate recognized by Yoga Alliance.
Payment Policy:
If you are unable to pay the full tuition fee, after your initial non-refundable $300 + HST deposit, there is payment plan option: 2 payments of $1100 + HST
The following payments must be made: 1st payment on the opening date, Oct 7th 2011 and 2nd payment Nov 7th 2011
Non-refundable deposit of $300 + HST will be required to secure your spot.

The Teacher Training group will gather for 14 weekends from October 2011 to January 2012.
